In February 2010 the finishing touches were made to the first ever pig AI laboratory in the Maltese Islands, which will give local farmers access to semen from excellent boars at affordable prices, and reduce the Maltese farmer’s dependence on imports. Experts from the UK were brought in to train KIM employees in the use of the state-of-the-art laboratory and the collection of semen from boars. The lab began to be utilized within a week of its completion.
